Free Online Random Number Generator

A random number generator picks numbers that cannot be predicted. People use one to draw raffle winners, roll dice, choose who goes first, sample data for a survey, create test data or simply settle an argument. This tool makes whole numbers or decimals in any range you choose, and it can produce up to 10,000 at once. The numbers come from your browser’s cryptographic random generator, and everything happens on your device.

How to Use the Random Number Generator

  1. Choose Whole numbers or Decimal numbers.
  2. Enter the Minimum and Maximum. Both numbers are included in the range.
  3. Set How many numbers you want. For decimals, choose the number of decimal places.
  4. Untick Allow duplicates if each number may appear only once.
  5. Press Generate for a new set. Then copy the result or download it as a file.

Options Explained

OptionWhat it does
Minimum and maximumThe smallest and largest value that can appear. Both ends are included, so 1 to 6 can give 1 and can give 6. Negative numbers work.
Decimal numbersGives numbers with a fixed number of decimal places, such as 0.37 or 12.5084. Every value with that many decimals in the range is equally likely.
Allow duplicatesWhen ticked, each draw is independent, like rolling a die many times. When unticked, no number repeats, like drawing balls from a lottery machine.
OrderKeeps the numbers as generated, or sorts them from smallest to largest or the reverse.
Output asLists the numbers one per line, separated by commas or spaces, or as a JSON array for use in code.

Quick Picks

  • Dice (d6) and d20: one roll of a six-sided or twenty-sided die. Raise “How many” to roll several dice at once.
  • Lottery 6 of 49: six different numbers from 1 to 49, sorted. This is for fun and games only.
  • Decimal 0 to 1: a random fraction, useful for probabilities and simulations.

Random Does Not Mean Evenly Spread

Truly random numbers often form streaks and repeats. Rolling a die three times and seeing 4, 4, 4 is not a fault, it is chance. If you turn off duplicates, no number repeats, but the selection is still random. Do not expect small samples to look perfectly balanced.

Is It Fair? Avoiding Modulo Bias

A common mistake in random number code is to take a random value and use the remainder after dividing by the range size. That makes some numbers slightly more likely than others. This generator avoids the problem by throwing away any random value that falls outside a whole number of ranges and drawing again. Every number in your range has exactly the same chance.

Pseudo-Random and True Random

Computers normally produce pseudo-random numbers from a formula. The generator here uses your browser’s cryptographically secure source, which is seeded with unpredictable data from your operating system. For games, draws, sampling and test data it behaves like true randomness. It is not a certified device for regulated gambling or official lotteries.

Limits

  • Up to 10,000 numbers per run.
  • Numbers from -1,000,000,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000,000,000. With decimals, the range multiplied by 10 for each decimal place must stay below about 9 quadrillion.
  • Unique numbers need a range at least as large as the count. You cannot draw 20 different numbers from 1 to 10.

Privacy

The numbers are made in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the random number generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and has no limit on how often you use it.

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. Both ends of the range can be picked.

How do I get numbers that never repeat?

Untick Allow duplicates. The range must have at least as many numbers as you ask for.

Is it really random?

It uses your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, which is far less predictable than the simple formulas behind many random functions.

Can I use it to pick a raffle or giveaway winner?

Yes. Number your entries from 1 to the total and generate one number. For a public draw, consider sharing a screen recording so people can see the result.

Can I use the numbers as passwords or keys?

No. Use the Password Generator for secrets. Plain numbers in a small range are easy to guess.

Can it generate negative numbers or decimals?

Yes. Set a negative minimum, or switch the type to Decimal numbers and choose the decimal places.
